China-Biotics, Inc. , a leading Chinese manufacturer of biotechnology products and supplements, engages in research, development, marketing and distribution of probiotics as dietary supplements and bulk food additives. Probiotics are beneficial, live bacteria used as dietary supplements and food additives to improve intestinal health and digestion. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Shanghai Shining Biotechnology Co., Ltd., the Company has operations in Shanghai. Its proprietary product portfolio contains live microbial nutritional supplements under the “Shining” brand. Currently, the products are sold OTC through large distributors to pharmacies and supermarkets in Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang. China-Biotics has a large retail outlet network in the Shanghai area. The Company’s flagship product, “Shining Essence,” has been a profit driver since its launch in April 2001. There is significant demand for probiotics for use in the bulk additive market, which is currently met by imports. To meet that demand, China-Biotics has constructed China's largest probiotics production facility in Qingpu Industrial Park of Shanghai and began commercial production in February 2010.
